VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City authorities have asked for the central government’s permission to build a convention-exhibition centre in Thu Thiem New Urban Area. 

The lotus-shaped work will be located on the bank of the Saigon River and is expected to be an architectural landmark in the downtown area of Thu Thiem New Urban Area.

This convention centre will be able to host international events such as meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), ASEAN, Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and the major events related to the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), and others.

Surrounded by the Saigon River, the Thu Thiem new urban area with 8 functional areas is expected to be the most beautiful urban area of Southeast Asia and the leading financial and commercial center in the future. 

The total permanent population in this area would be 145,400; the number of working people there 219,200 people; and visitors 1 million.

The Thu Thiem new urban area covers 657 hectares of land in the wards of An Khanh, Thu Thiem, An Loi Dong and part of Binh An and Binh Khanh Wards. 

It is divided into 5 main zones, including the centre, the central lake, the southern part, the eastern residential area, the northern part of the East-West highway and the remaining area.
