HCM City’s Government plans to spend VNĐ220 billion (US$9,400) from its budget to support workers and teachers at pre-schools this year.

The funds will be sued to attract and retain pre-school teachers, following a resolution approved in 2014 at the 13th meeting of the city’s People’s Council’s 8th session on pre-school education.

The amount will include a 25 per cent increase in the monthly salary of teachers, managers and staffs in public pre-schools, and a 35 per cent increase in monthly salary of teachers and workers taking care of children aged six to 18 months. It will also support new graduates who are working in pre-schools.

New teachers will receive an increase of 100 per cent in their monthly basic salary after the first year, an increase of 70 per cent in their monthly basic salary after the second year, and an increase of 50 per cent in their monthly basic salary after the third year.

According to the department, more than 1,520 new pre-school teachers are needed to fill the number of retired teachers and teachers quitting their jobs, as well as new teaching positions, for the upcoming academic year.

In the 2018-2019 school year, there will be 1.68 million students at all levels, with an increase of more than 67,230 students, especially in preschools and primary schools.

In recent years, the city has seen an average increase of 15,000 students who are non-permanent residents in the city. — VNS
