The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court on April 13 handed down death penalties to two men involved in a case of smuggling 11.8kg of drugs.

According to the indictment on March 30, 2012, Ho Chi Minh City police arrested Le Thi Ngoc Tuyen, born in 1971, who was discovered to be keeping 7.3kg of methamphetamine, one pistol and 25 bullets.
Expanding investigations, police captured other members of Tuyen’s ring – Nguyen Van Thang, Tran Tuan Anh, Nguyen Minh Hanh, Nguyen Be Chinh, Bui Duy Thanh, and Hong Ngoc Long.
After a one-day trial, the court declared sentences on all seven defendants.
Thang and Anh were sentenced to death on the charge of illegal drug smuggling. Meanwhile, Tuyen was sentenced to life imprisonment as she has a little child.
The remaining were given nine to 17 years imprisonment.
A suspect in this case remains at large Nguyen Tang Quang, who was said to provide drugs for Tuyen, is still being hunted by the investigation agency.
