HCM City wants to get support from the United Nations Development Programmme (UNDP) in programmes on public administrative reform, climate change adaption, flood prevention, and start-up development.

Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan made the statement at a reception for Kamal Malhotra, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam on August 29.

He expressed his hope that the UN will continue implementing programmes to support Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City in addressing challenges in development, such as effectively allocating state budget for localities with gaps in productivity and administrative reform.

Nhan suggested the UNDP support the city in building criteria to evaluate citizen satisfaction with public services and citizen happiness, as well as connect HCM city with other sustainable cities to share their experience in urban development.

For his part, Malhotra said the UNDP wanted to build cooperative programmes with the city, focusing on creative development to enhance the city’s competitiveness and natural disaster management.

He also pledged to do his utmost to share international experience with the city in boosting startups and climate change adaption.
