HCM City won the top position in the National Swimming Championship, which ended in Hanoi on Saturday.

The City’s athletes pocketed 11 gold medals, nine silvers and seven bronzes during the  competitions.

An Giang placed second with eight titles and five silver medals, followed by Quang Binh, who grabbed the same number of gold medals, but only two silver medals.

On the final day, Da Nang's best swimmer, Hoang Quy Phuoc, stole the limelight with two gold medals in the men’s 200 freestyle and 200m butterfly events.

An Giang’s Vietnamese American competitor, Le Nguyen Paul, excelled in the men’s 50m backstroke.

Quang Binh’s Mai Thi Linh added two more gold medals to her bag, after winning the women’s 400m individual medley and 200m freestyle.

Also, HCM City grabbed a gold medal in the men’s team 4x100m freestyle pool.

Hosts Hà Nội finally won their first and only medal in the 50m backstroke, when Bui Cong Thanh finished third in this event on Saturday.
