Ho Chi Minh City has attracted 15 science and technology experts who are overseas Vietnamese and foreigners to work in science and technology field, exceeding this year target of 11 experts, reported the Department of Science and Technology.
Last year, the city spent over VND8.7 billion (US$39,000) and expected to lure 27 experts but the number touched only 12.
Of them, four have come to work in projects at the Saigon Hi-Tech Park, two in the Biotechnology Center and six in the Institute for Computational Science and Technology.
Deputy director of the Science and Technology Center Nguyen Ky Phung said that despite shortage of leading scientists, the city has yet to use and promote the brainpower of domestic intelligentsia and Vietnamese scientists abroad.
Especially, it has lacked specific policies to draw overseas science and technology human resources.
All policies have just stopped at spiritual encouragement without material conditions such as housing and wage policies for foreign experts.
