Road users are stuck in a heavy traffic jam in HCMC. The city needs over VND83 trillion to develop traffic projects

The HCMC government has written to the Ministry of Transport, requesting funds from the central budget for 12 projects with an estimated cost of VND45.2 trillion.

Of the total 12 projects, four require a total of VND5.5 trillion from official development assistance (ODA) loans.

The four ODA-funded projects are the second phase of a water environment rehabilitation project in the basin of the Tau Hu, Ben Nghe, Doi and Te canals; a technical support project for HCMC’s green traffic development; a sustainable urban traffic project for metro line No. 2 and the construction of metro line No. 2 from Ben Thanh to Tham Luong.

The other eight traffic projects need VND39.6 trillion from the central budget. These projects, managed by the Ministry of Transport, comprise the HCMC-Thu Dau Mot-Chon Thanh expressway project, four components of Ring Road 3, two intersections of the Tan Tao-Cho Dem section; phase three of the Soai Rap River dredging project and the traffic infrastructure project in the Mekong Delta region.

In addition, nine other projects will be built in the period, requiring VND37.9 trillion from the city’s budget. These projects, connecting the city with its neighboring provinces, are scheduled to be executed under the public-private partnership format. SGT
