Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Council, today, January 14, received a decision on her retirement from the municipal Party Committee, the local media reported.

The decision, issued previously by the Politburo, listed Tam’s official retirement date as January 1, in line with prevailing regulations.

Tam was born in 1958 in An Hoa Commune, Trang Bang District, in the southern province of Tay Ninh. Between 1986 and 1996, she served as the deputy head of the Ideology and Education Commission and member of the Party Committee’s Executive Board of Thu Duc District in HCMC.

In 1997, she was a member of the Standing Committee and head of the Ideology and Education Commission of Thu Duc District's Party Committee. Then, she moved to work in District 9, holding these two positions until 2000.

From October 2002 to January 2006, she worked as the chief of Thu Duc District’s Party Committee and chairwoman of the district’s People’s Council. Also, she was elected as a member of the HCMC’s seventh Party Committee’s Executive Board.

She was then appointed head of the municipal Commission for Mass Mobilization, head of the municipal Party Committee's Ideology and Education Commission, deputy secretary of the municipal Party Committee and, finally, chairwoman of the municipal People’s Council during the 2006-2018 period.
