A seminar on implementing the national data on population was held by the Ho Chi Minh City Public Security Department on March 28 with the participation of Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong.
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong speaks in the meeting.
At the conference, a steering committee No.896 led by chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong has been established to simplify administrative procedures, citizenship papers and databases related to population management in the city.
The city’s Public Security Department will issue residence registration forms to collect the information of citizens citywide, starting on April 18. The program will be applied for Vietnamese people who have household registration books and are living in Vietnam; and those living, studying and working abroad. The program is expected to be finished on October 18.
Citizens information will be digitized and archived by an information infrastructure system. People will then receive citizen identification numbers.
Ho Chi Minh City is home to over 10 million people, including more than 6 million people who are eligible for household registration books and over 3 millions permanent residents. The population growth rate in the city is also among the highest in the country.
Building national data on population will contribute to the development of the city and make the management task easier, said Chairman Phong
