Nguyen Thi Thu, vice chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Committee, died yesterday, February 20, at the age of 53, the local media reported.

She reportedly died of serious illness in the afternoon.
Born in 1966, Thu is a native of Tan Duong Commune, Thuy Nguyen District, Haiphong City.
She held the post of vice chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Committee from December 2015.
In May 2016, she was elected as a member of the ninth municipal People’s Council for the 2016-2021 tenure.
Earlier, she was the secretary of the Party Committee and chairwoman of the People Committee of the city’s outlying district of Nha Be, before serving as chairwoman of the HCMC Labor Federation.
While holding the post of vice chairwoman of the city government, Thu was in charge of the city’s education and training; culture; sports; publishing and press; health; labor, invalids and social affairs; poverty alleviation; State employee management; as well as emulation programs.
In addition, she was head of the board for women’s advancement and gender equality and the sustainable poverty alleviation board.
