Visitors to Ta Puong waterfall in Quang Tri can not only cool off with activities such as rock climbing and SUP rowing but also enjoy local ethnic cuisine with many delicious and unique dishes.

Located about 120km from the center of Dong Ha city, Ta Puong waterfall in Trang Ta Puong village, Huong Viet commune, Huong Hoa district, is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Quang Tri province, especially in the summer. This area is known for its wild, lush landscape and various "cooling" activities, providing visitors with a sense of healing and immersion in nature.

A scenic cluster

According to the National Tourism Administration's Electronic Information Portal, Ta Puong waterfall comprises one cave and two waterfalls, situated in the west of Quang Tri province.

Ta Puong Cave extends 200 meters into the mountain, with a width of about 10 meters. It is dark and damp inside, accommodating up to 200 people, and is divided into two parts: a stream and a sandbank, featuring an impressive stalactite system.

From the Ho Chi Minh trail, visitors walk for about 30 minutes through the primeval forest and villages to reach Ta Puong 1 Waterfall, which is about 20 meters high and cascades down vertical cliffs. The area around the waterfall is dotted with large, uniquely shaped rocks, making it an ideal spot for picnics and relaxation.

Approximately 1.5km downstream from Ta Puong 1 Waterfall is Ta Puong 2 Waterfall, featuring a 5,000 square meter lake with clear blue water. This area is popular for swimming, playing, and SUP activities.

Ideal visiting time

The best time to visit Ta Puong waterfall is from March to August. Mr. Hoai An from the Quang Tri Province Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Center shared that the community tourism management team of Trang Ta Puong village organizes tourism activities and welcomes guests at the waterfall.

Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenery and swimming, and participate in physical activities such as SUP rowing, bamboo boat rowing, trekking, mountain climbing, and visiting Ta Puong Cave. The area also boasts other pristine destinations like Sa Mu Pass, Brai Cave, Lao Bao Prison, and Ta Con Airport.

A visit to Ta Puong waterfall offers the chance to savor local specialties prepared by the ethnic minorities, including wild bamboo shoots and chicken trays.

How to get there

From Dong Ha city, visitors travel along National Highway 9 for about 60km to Khe Sanh town, then turn onto the Ho Chi Minh road and continue for 50km to Huong Viet commune. From there, a few more kilometers lead to Trang Ta Puong village, followed by an 800-meter walk to the waterfall.

The journey, although long, is made enjoyable by the beautiful scenery along the way, featuring peaceful stilt houses of the Pa Co and Van Kieu people and stretches of primeval forest.

Visitors are reminded to avoid littering, clean up before leaving, and wear life jackets when swimming. As the walk from the parking lot to the waterfall is quite far, it is advisable to ensure good health and wear shoes with good grip.

To maintain security and order, the People's Committee of Huong Viet commune has mobilized police and militia to patrol regularly. They also educate visitors on proper trash disposal and fire prevention and encourage local households to assist tourists.

The tourism exploitation unit at Ta Puong waterfall ensures safety by providing life jackets and rescue services when needed.
