The Ministry of Health has floated three birth adjustment options for married couples and individuals as part of the population and family planning policy proposed in the draft population law, the Government news website reports.

The three options allow each couple or individual to decide the timing of giving birth, the number of children, and the spacing between pregnancies in a voluntary, equal and responsible manner.

However, in option one, the Government should specify the number of children for each family depending on the need for replacement fertility. Meanwhile, in option two, the Government encourages each couple to have a maximum of two children.

In the last option, they can give birth to one or two children, except for special cases prescribed by the Government.

The ministry is in favor of the first option which is supposedly in line with the current situation and the forecast, and is flexible in birth control, and has more positive effects like the implementation of the population and family planning policy.

However, the promotion of birth control should be strengthened to avoid a sudden increase in fertility.
