The Ministry of Health’s Medical Examination and Treatment Department will verify a man’s complaint in which he alleges doctors at a hospital left a 15-cm scissor in his abdomen.

He claims the scissors were left inside following a surgery in 1998 at the Bac Kan General Hospital.

On December 25, Ma Van Nhat, 54, went to the Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Hospital for an ultrasound scan following a traffic accident. The scan’s result showed there was a scissor-shaped object inside his abdomen.

Two days later, he took another ultrasound scan at the Bac Kan General Hospital and got the same result.

Nhat said in June 1998, he suffered injuries to his right rib due to a traffic accident. He was taken to the Bac Kan General Hospital where doctors performed surgery on him.

Nhat said he did not remember the medical crew who performed the surgery.

He said he continued with his daily life following the operation and never felt any pain.

Nhật has sent his complaint to the hospital’s director board, which said the complaint is under consideration.

Luong Ngoc Khue, head of the Medical Examination and Treatment Department, last night told the Youth newspaper “It is unusual for a person to remain healthy after a scissor-shaped subject is left inside his abdomen.”

However, the department will clarify the case soon, he said.
