In the south, hot weather was expected everywhere but with reducing intensity.   

The centre said the heat wave in the north should ease by May 10.

Meanwhile, scattered heavy rains have fallen over the last 10 days in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak, said Nguyen Dai Nguong, director of the province’s Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting.

The heavy rains couldn’t dispel water shortages in some areas, a sign that the whole province that was suffering from prolonged drought.     

The centre predicted rains would occur on a large-scale in the province in mid May.

Rain-storms and whirlwinds struck in districts such as Buon Don, Ea Sup and Krong Nang, causing damage to local’s property.

At least 41 houses in Ea Sup District had their roofs blown off and eight electricity poles collapsed, causing VNĐ700 million (US$31,400) in damage.     

Four houses and four schools in Kong Nang District and 45 houses and six schools in Buon Don District lost their roofs, causing VNĐ380 million and VNĐ800 million in damage, respectively.

Facing with the prolonged drought and whirlwind damage, Dak Lak Province People’s Committee has delivered 500 tons of rice from Government supplies.

The province has asked the Government to send 1,000 tons of rice to people who suffered bad harvests and to ethnic minority areas.
