The municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has released a report on the bonus for the New Year and Tet of 1,035 local enterprises employing 140,000 workers.
The report shows that the bonus for Tet dropped against last year. The highest Tet bonus in HCM City last year was up to VND3.5 billion (USD152,173).
According to the department, the highest bonuses for both the New Year and Tet belong to foreign direct investment (FDI) firms operating in the fields of refrigeration electrical engineering and finance and banking respectively.
In 2020, the average salary per employee is VND10 million, decreased by 8.6% compared with the year before because of being impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The average New Year bonus given by HCM City companies to an employee is VND3.4 million, equal to that of last year, while the average Tet bonus is VND8.8 million, down by 12% against last year.
Despite being hard hit by the pandemic, many firms have still managed to manage bonuses for their employees.
