On February 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Public Transport Management Center announced that the city is preparing to deploy hundreds of electric buses. These vehicles are part of bidding packages already awarded to transport enterprises, aimed at promoting the use of eco-friendly public transportation.

Accordingly, VinBus Ecology Transport Services Co., Ltd. will launch electric bus route No. 127, running from An Thoi Dong to Nga Ba Ba Xan in Can Gio District. This will be the first electric bus route operating in the area, following the completion of vehicle inspections, personnel training and technical preparations.

In addition to route 127, VinBus will also operate eight more electric bus routes, including routes 32, 38, 45, 53, 64, 93, 140 and 148. These routes are part of the bidding package won by the company in October 2025.

Also starting March 1, Phuong Trang Passenger Transport Joint Stock Company, known as Futa Buslines, will simultaneously launch 16 new electric bus routes: 01, 04, 08, 15, 22, 27, 43, 62, 65, 70, 74, 81, 110, 139, 152 and 170.

Notably, route 170 will operate within the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City campus, connecting the bus station in Area A to the bus station in Area B, meeting the travel needs of a large number of students and staff.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, following the administrative merger with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau, the city’s bus network now comprises 179 routes, including 108 subsidized routes and 71 non-subsidized routes, with a total of 2,319 vehicles in operation.

Of these, 47 routes are electric bus services with 627 vehicles, and 18 routes use compressed natural gas, or CNG, with 449 vehicles. Environmentally friendly vehicles now account for 46.4 percent of the total bus fleet citywide.

The addition of hundreds of electric buses from March 1 will not only raise the proportion of green vehicles within the public transport system but also underscore Ho Chi Minh City’s determination to build a modern, green and sustainable urban environment.
