The proposal was submitted by the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport to the Ministry of Construction, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, and Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
The plan aims to establish efficient bus connections to the airport, including the new Terminal T3, to alleviate traffic congestion and improve public transport services.
The department collaborated with Bach Khoa Science and Technology Corporation to develop a detailed plan for connecting bus routes to Tan Son Nhat Airport.
The plan is designed to reduce traffic jams around the airport and to provide high-quality, modern bus services that meet the demands of passengers when Terminal T3 begins operations.
The department has requested Tan Son Nhat International Airport to allocate five to seven bus parking spots within the Terminal T3 area (near the arrivals hall) to facilitate bus pick-up and drop-off, thereby enhancing the quality of public bus services at the airport.
The Ministry of Construction has agreed to allow the Department of Transport to organize bus connections in the airport area, planning approximately 20 routes.
Additionally, the department has been assigned to coordinate bus connections between Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Long Thanh International Airport.
Tan Son Nhat Airport, the largest airport in southern Vietnam, handles up to 150,000 passengers daily during peak periods, often leading to severe congestion on connecting roads.
Over the years, Ho Chi Minh City has undertaken several major projects to address traffic congestion around the airport, including building steel overpasses at Lang Cha Ca and Truong Son near the airport entrance, as well as the overpass at the Nguyen Kiem - Nguyen Thai Son - Hoang Minh Giam intersection.
The city has also invested thousands of billions of VND to widen Hoang Minh Giam, Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa, and Hoang Hoa Tham streets.
