During the meetings with Lao Party General Secretary and President Bounnhang Volachith, National Assembly Chairwoman Pany Yathotou and Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, the city’s leaders hailed the practical and effective ties between Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane over the past years, contributing to tightening the Vietnam-Laos relationship in general.

He said the two cities will continue discussing specific measures to foster bilateral ties.

On the occasion, Secretary Thang also asked the hosts to create all favourable conditions for Vietnamese investors, including those from Ho Chi Minh City.

The Lao leaders hoped that Ho Chi Minh City will increase its investment in Laos, not only in major cities but also in remote and mountainous areas.

The same day, the Vietnamese delegation paid a courtesy call to President of the Lao Front for National Construction Saysomphone Phomvihane and former PM Sisavath Keobounphan.

During the stay, the delegation will visit Champasak province and sign a bilateral cooperation agreement for 2016-2021.

Ho Chi Minh City bolsters cooperation with Vientiane

Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang held talks with Secretary of the Party Committee and Mayor of Vientiane Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune in the Lao capital city on May 30 with the purpose to discuss measures to boost the two cities’ relations.

At the meeting, the two sides informed each other of their respective city’s socio-economic development situations. Both expressed their delight at the outcomes of bilateral cooperation in numerous fields.

Thang told the host that this is his first working visit abroad in the position of municipal Party Committee Secretary, which showed his city’s wish to further tighten its friendship and cooperation with Vientiane and other Lao localities.

As a driving force for their nation’s economic development, both Ho Chi Minh City and Vientiane should seek ways to boost their cooperation more specifically and practically, he said, adding that Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, wants to be one of the biggest investors of Vientiane.

Sinlavong Khoutphaythoune thanked the support of Vietnam, especially Ho Chi Minh City, for Vientiane, saying that Vientiane wishes to share experience and collaborate with Ho Chi Minh City in all areas.

At the talks, the two sides agreed to continue the implementation of the signed Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation for 2015-2020.

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh vowed to help Vientiane develop animal husbandry and beef processing, and improve its financial and budget management and financial officials capacity.

The two cities agreed to continue expanding cooperation in tourism and culture, and exchanging experience in fields of mutual concern.
