The Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee has agreed in principle to the construction of Ho Tram Project Company Limited’s proposed specialised airport project, with Loc An commune selected for the location.

The local people’s committee said that the airport will contribute to boosting the local economy and meet the transport demand of travellers to the area.

Previously, on July 4, Ho Tram Project Company Limited, the operator of $4.2-billion Grand Ho Tram Strip integrated resort and casino complex, submitted a detailed proposal to the people’s committee to build a specialised airport in the province with aims to transporting tourists to the complex.

According to the company, the airport will be located on a land area of 200 hectares and will be invested under the BOT (build-operate-transfer) model.

Based on the company’s plans, the project will break even within 50 years.

The company had proposed either a plot of land in Loc An or one in Binh Chau commune in Xuyen Moc district as its location.

Because Ba Ria-Vung Tau will only have two airports (in Vung Tau and Con Dao) in accordance with the 2020-2030 air transport development plan approved by the prime minister, a new specialised airport project will be needed to secure approval from the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Transport before requesting the government to adjust this plan.

The $4.2-billion Grand Ho Tram Strip integrated resort and casino complex opened on July 26, 2013.
