The rural tourism development program has deepened and improved the quality of new rural construction in Hoa Binh province, contributing to sustainable economic growth.
In recent years, the province has actively promoted tourism associated with agriculture and rural areas. Many tourism products featuring unique agricultural eco-cultural characteristics have been systematically developed with clear directions.
Currently, the province has over 20 community-based tourism villages of ethnic groups such as Muong, Thai, Dao, and Mong, with nearly 200 homestays offering accommodation and related tourism services, attracting both domestic and international visitors for sightseeing and cultural experiences.
Notably, three types of rural tourism are thriving in the province: community-based tourism, agricultural tourism, and eco-tourism. Among these, community-based tourism has received significant investment, operating effectively and growing rapidly. Examples include cooperative-based community tourism models in Lac Village and Hang Kia Village (Mai Chau District);
community tourism under local tourism associations in villages such as Mu, Khuong, Mon, and Sat Thuong (Lac Son District); and joint-stock company-operated community tourism in villages such as Ke, Duc Phong, and Sung (Da Bac District).
According to the Hoa Binh Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, in addition to rural tourism, the province also boasts farms and agricultural production areas that provide products for tourists.
Highlights include organic vegetables in Tan Lac, Cao Phong oranges, Lac Thuy chickens, and cage fish farming on Hoa Binh Lake. Some localities have also developed farm models for relaxation and experiential activities.
In 2024, local authorities aim to support rural tourism OCOP (One Commune One Product) products to achieve at least a 3-star OCOP tourism rating.
Additionally, they plan to develop handicrafts and souvenirs such as brocade decorations and gifts from the Hoa Ban Cooperative in Lac Village, Chieng Chau Commune (Mai Chau).
The province is also working on digitizing information and materials for interpreting cultural and historical relics tied to rural tourism in districts such as Cao Phong and Tan Lac.
Rural tourism has driven qualitative improvements in new rural construction, creating local jobs for rural workers, promoting the consumption of agricultural products - especially OCOP items - and enhancing the skills, awareness, and capacity of rural residents. Moreover, it plays a role in preserving and maintaining traditional cultural identities.
Looking ahead, to strengthen the connection between tourism, agriculture, and rural areas, and to establish high-value, competitive, and branded product chains, the province aims to improve the quality of life for its residents.
Relevant departments and localities will work together to enhance responsibility in state management, implement suitable policies for encouraging development, and create comprehensive plans for community tourism development. Efforts will also focus on upgrading infrastructure to be more advanced and modern.
