Hoang Xuan Vinh has won two gold medals at the ongoing National Shooting Cup in Hanoi.

It is his first domestic event since his magical victory at the Rio Games last August. Vinh took the lead in the men’s 50m pistol with 655.1 points, followed by Nguyen Hoang Phuong with 639.9 points and Tran Quoc Cuong with 631.1 points.

In the men’s team 50m pistol event, Vinh and his teammates Phuong and Vu Tuan Duong also won gold.

According to coach Nguyen Thi Nhung, the tournament is a warm-up for the Olympian gold medalist Vinh to prepare for the upcoming Southeast Asian Games, to be held in Malaysia in August.

After this tournament Vinh will leave for South Korea to train before competing in the World Cup in Germany in May and Azerbaijan in June.

Other shooters - Nguyen Duy Hoang and Nguyen Thi Hoa - also  won two gold medals each at the National Shooting Cup.

Members of the Army team dominated the men’s individual 10m air rifle event.

Hoang triumphed with a score of 242.7 points. Nguyen Thanh Nam and Nguyen Duy Dung came second and third place respectively.

The national team marksman Hoang, Nguyen Van Chuong and Nguyen Thanh Nam took part in the team event, where they succeeded with 1,749 points.

In the women’s 50m prone rifle individual event, Hoa from Hai Duong claimed the title, scoring 590 points.

Army teammates Nguyen Thi Phuong and Nguyen Huyen Trang were runners-up.

Hai Duong trio, which included Hoa, Nguyen Thi Hang and Le Thi Anh Dao, went on to take the team title with 1,750 points.

Earlier, the Army team also won the men’s team 25m pistol event with a score of 1,712 points.

In the individual event, Phan Xuan Chuyen of HCM City beat the title favourite Ha Minh Thanh of Army to take gold.

Chuyên ranked third, while Thanh was on top after the qualifications. But Chuyên’s outstanding performance in the final brought him 27 points, four more than Thành, who finished third. Dau Van Dong also from Army squad was second with 26 points.

The last gold of the day went to soldier Nguyen Thi Thu Hang who shot 373 points in the women’s 10m air rifle running target event.

Hanoian Dang Hong Ha finished second, followed by Nguyen Thi Le Quyen from Hai Phong.

After four days, the Army team is in first place with seven golds. Hai Duong is second with two, while HCM City take third, with one.

The tournament ends on April 11.
