VietNamNet Bridge – Doctors of HCM City-based Tu Du Obstetrics Hospital, one of Vietnam’s largest obstetric clinics, on August 4 performed a laparoscopic operation to remove a 5x10cm compress from the belly of a female patient.

The 34-year-old woman from the central province of Binh Phuoc had undergone a Caesarean surgery at the hospital. Two months after the surgery, she suffered from abdominal pain.

Doctors then found the foreign body inside her belly, which was identified to be a compress that had been left from the Caesarean operation.

Tu Du Hospital’s director apologized to the patient and her family.

The woman left the hospital on August 8.

In another case, doctors of Nong Cong District Hospital in Thanh Hoa Province mistakenly cut the ureter of a woman who came to the hospital for a Caesarian operation in June.

On June 23, expectant mother Nguyen Thi Oanh, 40, went to the Nong Cong District Hospital for a Caesarian operation. Due to complications during the surgery, doctors decided to cut her womb to save her life.

After the operation, the woman could not urinate as she did not have a ureter. It turned out that her ureter was mistakenly cut off during the surgery.

The doctors who involved in this incident have been reprimanded and suspended from work for investigation.
