Domestic fuel prices have continued to undergo adjustments. According to Petrolimex’s retail price list updated at 11:45pm on April 3, diesel 0.05S-II was priced at VND44,780 per liter.
As a result, diesel-powered vehicles in Vietnam are facing significantly higher refueling costs.
Compared to the price of Petrolimex diesel 0.5S-II updated at 3pm on March 5, the cost to fill the tank of diesel models has increased by VND1.34 million to over VND 2.1 million per refueling, depending on the tank capacity.
A survey by VietNamNet found that many diesel engine models on the market use large fuel tanks, with the highest reaching up to 80–85.8 liters.
For example, the Ford Ranger pickup (2022–2026) has a tank capacity of 80–85.8 liters, equivalent to a fill-up cost of about VND3.58–3.84 million. The vehicle uses a 2.0L single-Turbo or Bi-Turbo diesel engine, with a maximum capacity of about 210 horsepower.
With an average fuel consumption rate of 8–10 liters/100 km, this model can travel between 800 km and 1,050 km each time the tank is filled.
With the same 80-liter capacity level, pickup models like the Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara, or D-segment SUVs such as the Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner, and Isuzu mu-X, all have a fill-up cost of approximately VND3.58 million. These models use diesel engines with displacements ranging from 2.0L to 2.8L.
With a lower level, the Isuzu D-Max with a 76-liter fuel tank costs about VND3.4 million for each full tank. The vehicle uses a 1.9L diesel engine with 150 horsepower, offering a fuel-saving advantage. With an average consumption of about 7-8 liters/100 km, the travel distance per full tank can reach 900-1,000 km, depending on operating conditions.
The Mitsubishi Triton pickup with a 75-liter tank needs about VND3.36 million to fill up. This model is equipped with a 2.4L MIVEC diesel engine (single-Turbo or Bi-Turbo), with a maximum capacity of 204 horsepower.
With an average fuel consumption of about 7–8.5 liters/100 km, each full tank allows the vehicle to travel 900km-1,050 km, depending on operating conditions.
In addition to pickup trucks, diesel models in the D and E-segment SUV and MPV categories also have large fuel tanks.
Specifically, the large MPV model KIA Carnival has a 72-liter diesel tank capacity, costing about VND 3.22 million when filled. The vehicle uses a 2.2L diesel engine with a capacity of about 199 horsepower.
