Famed Truong Tien Bridge is one of the public sites under consideration for CCTV cameras.

The local police department will work with the department of information and communications to identify sites that require surveillance cameras. They will then decide on the number of cameras needed at each site.

According to the departments, sites at the top of the list for cameras are public squares, parks, around city hall and monuments, as well as on busy roads and bridges.

Col Phan Văn Minh, an official from the police department said the cameras are part of the city’s smart management project, which is under development.

Images captured from the cameras will be recorded instantly by the smart city control centre. Minh said the photos could assist police in combating criminal cases in public places.

With the project, the city authorities expect to provide better assistance to tourists in the former imperial capital, maintaining the profile of a green and peaceful city.

The installation will use local government budget but the exact investment amount has not been revealed. The work is expected to start in mid-August. — VNS
