On the afternoon of July 27, Dang Ngoc Dung, 30, from Hamlet 1 in Bien Ho Commune, set out as usual to fish on the lake. He brought five fishing nets with a combined length of about 250 meters and a height of six meters.

At around 5 a.m. the following morning, Dung returned by boat to check his nets and found two large silver carp trapped inside. One weighed 9kg, while the other tipped the scales at an impressive 25kg.

Dung recalled the moment he discovered the larger fish.

"After removing the first fish, I looked farther out and saw another one caught in the net, floating weakly on the water's surface. As I got closer, my hands started shaking because I never imagined it would be that big," he said.

According to Dung, the fish was later sold at a local market for VND80,000 per kilogram.

Having worked as a fisherman for more than a decade, Dung said he had previously seen another fisherman catch a silver carp weighing about 46kg. He himself landed a 31kg silver carp just a few months ago.

Dung also revealed that Bien Ho Lake is home to a pair of enormous grass carp believed to weigh more than 100kg each. The fish occasionally surface, allowing local residents to catch a glimpse of them, but no one has successfully caught either of them so far.
