Hundreds of households in Thanh Hoa Province were evacuated on July 22 amid rising floods in the region.

Many people in Thanh Truc, Thanh Kim, Thanh My, Thanh Vinh, Thach Lam communes and Thach Thanh District were evacuated as of 4 pm. Since Road 523 was under 1.2 metres of water, boats became the main means of transportation for the residents.

Thanh Truc Commune's Vice Chairman Le Xuan Mau said 143 households with more than 500 residents were being evacuated before the flood arrived.

"We also sent out three boats for search and rescue or to transfer residents to hospitals in emergencies," he said.

Bui Van Huy, a local in Da Dun Village, Thanh Truc Commune, said when the water rapidly rose since yesterday afternoon, they had to move their belongings and furniture to the second floor and took their cattle to shelter.

45-year-old Truong Thi Hoa said, "The flood came along with the lack of clean water and food. All five members of our family are staying together in a 30-square metres-room. I hope it will stop raining soon."

Reports from Thach Thanh District People's Committee show that as of 4 pm on July 22, the water level in Buoi River reached 11.87 metres, 696 houses and 1,149 hectares of rice fields were submerged under water. 827 households have been evacuated.

If the Buoi River's water level keeps rising, they will evacuate all households in Thach Dinh Commune.
