Nearly 200 workers were mobilised to work overnight for dredging Hoan Kiem Lake.

The workers were from Hanoi Sewage and Drainage Limited Company.

Le Vu Quang Suong, deputy director of the company, said the dredging work had been carried out for two days and was expected to be finished before the Lunar New Year next year.

Every day, work starts at 9 pm and finishes at 5 am the next day. During weekends they operate from midnight until 5 am.

Some 100 cubic metres of mud is dredged from the lake per hour, Suong added.

Canvass is used in areas to cover the path to vehicles taking the mud away.

Nearly 100 vehicles, machines and equipment of different kinds have also been used for cleaning up the lake.

The plan will cost an estimated VND30 billion (USD1.33 million).

During the cleaning process, the company will take measures to prevent noise and ensure labour safety and clean working areas.

The company will also work with scientists and experts to implement measures to protect all aquatic animals and plants in the lake during the cleaning process.
