Hien recorded the meeting between VPF and VFF’s referee boards to solve issues of referring the ongoing national premiere league on May 15, in which Hung used indecent words to threaten Hien, which affected the prestige of VPF.

Hung apologised to VPF’s shareholders and football fans at a meeting of the company on May 22. He said his words were spontaneous and that he did not mean them.

VPF chairman Tran Anh Tu accepted Hung’s resignation, saying, “We appreciate that Hung has acknowledged his mistake and regret that he has resigned as VPF deputy chairman. However, we accept his decision as it will help salvage the image of VPF and Vietnamese football.”

VPF had earlier decided to not invite three referees to the ongoing league, including Hien who didn’t fulfil his responsibilities as referee supervisor. — VNS
