VietNamNet Bridge - The water discharge from some hydropower plants in the central region has led to serious flooding in many provinces, including Hue, Binh Dinh, Quang Nam, Lam Dong, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa.
Due to heavy rains over the recent days, several local hydropower plants, including Binh Dien, Huong Dien and Ta Trach in Thua Thien-Hue Province, had to discharge water from their reservoirs. This has caused many local rivers such as Huong and Bo rivers to overflow, flooding lots of surrounding areas.
Some areas in Phu Vang District were up to 80 centimetres under water. Pupils in the district of Quang Dien and Phong Dien and Huong Tra Town were allowed to stay at home due to the flooding.
In Huong Tra Town, one man in Huong Tra Town was found dead after being swept away by the flooding while going through Khe Trai area.
For Hue City, this was the first time in many year that the Huong River has overflowed, submerging streets. Schools in the city from December 14, permitted their pupils to stay at home to avoid danger.
Flood has also affected the lives of thousands of people in the provinces of Binh Dinh, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, Phu Yen and Quang Ngai.
