IDG carried out the survey in eight large cities and provinces of Vietnam, namely Hanoi, HCMC, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Can Tho, Dong Nai, Vung Tau and Binh Duong. Those surveyed included 52 percent of Viettel subscribers, 27 percent of MobiFone and 21 percent of VinaPhone subscribers.

Regarding the users’ satisfaction level, 7 percent said they were not satisfied about stability, and 5.8 percent were not satisfied about quality, while 17 percent were not satisfied about the price and service packages.

Regarding the purposes of 4G use, 56 percent of people said they used it for entertainment and 29 percent for work.

As for gamers and those who use entertainment services on mobile phones, 9 percent said they were not satisfied about the speed.

Analysts said that network operators made a breakthrough in providing 4G services, noting that 45 percent polled in a previous survey by Nielsen were not satisfied about 3G service quality.

In IDG’s survey, 81 percent of users said they wanted more sale promotions.

Regarding the purposes of 4G use, 56 percent of people said they used it for entertainment and 29 percent for work.

Of the three biggest network operators, VinaPhone was rated the network with preeminent customer care quality, while MobiFone was the network with the best 4G service quality and Viettel the best in coverage.

Viettel remains the only mobile network in Vietnam which has nationwide 4G coverage. Viettel is also considered the operator with the strongest 4G deployment (36,000 BTS within six months).

Science Minister Chu Ngoc Anh said that Viettel’s 4G deployment is among the best in the world.

Of three 4G service providers, VinaPhone and MobiFone provide services in many cities and provinces, but they have not announced the launch of 4G across the country.

It is difficult to compare the quality of services provided by the telcos.

Viettel is the only network operator which has announced the use of the most advanced technology. The technology is being used by fewer than 60 out of 600 4G service providers worldwide.

With basic 4G packages provided by three network operators, the service fee is about $1.5 for 1 GB, a low level compared with other countries.

Mantosh Malhotra, Vice President of Qualcomm South East Asia, said the 4G growth in Vietnam is impressive, predicting that by 2020, 67 percent of devices sold in Vietnam would support 4G LTE connections, while the number of 3G and 4G subscribers could reach 120 million.

There are 3.5 million active 4G subscribers in Vietnam.
