VietNamNet Bridge – Some artworks by American installation painter and sculptor Mark Cooper are on display at an art exhibition called “YU YU Vietnam BLUE” between December 28 and January 9 at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, in Hanoi.
The program was initiated in early 2015 by Cooper during his visit to Vietnam, along with David Thomas, artist and director of the artistic exchange program of the Indochina Arts Partnership, and Nguyen Anh Tuan, an independent curator in Hanoi.
For the project, Cooper cooperated with local artists specializing in different art genres including painting, sculpture, installation, fashion design, graphic design, crafts and ceramics.
In June 2015, he started working with local artists in Hanoi such as Vu Duc Hieu and Trinh Vu Hieu in making pottery, sculptor Luong Van Viet in wooden sculpture, artist Dang Xuan Hoa in painting, and artisan Nguyen The Du and Nguyen Thi Liu in making rugs.
He also worked with craftsman Nguyen Van Nam and Nguyen Van Hai in the northern province of Nam Dinh, kite artisan Nguyen Dang Hoang in Hue City, and craftsmen at Bat Trang and Hoi An ceramic villages in the central province of Quang Nam.
Exhibition “YU YU Vietnam BLUE” is the result of their cooperation for over six months.
The event is an official part of the 20th anniversary celebration of Vietnam-U.S. ties. After its closing date, part of the artists’ works will be shown at art events in the U.S.
