The 12 swans which were brought to Thien Quang Lake in Hanoi have adapted to the local environment.
The swans imported from Belgium were moved to Thien Quang Lake in February this year just a day after being released at Hoan Kiem Lake.
The birds were part of a Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage Limited Company pilot project to beautify Hoan Kiem Lake and the surrounding area. However, some people considered that raising swans as not being ‘suitable’ due to the lake's history which had long been associated with the legend of a centuries-old turtle.
Since living on Thien Quang Lake, the swans have thrived. They come to the bank to eat grass. Some even interact with people.
Hanoi spent VND30 billion (USD1.33 million) to dredge and clean Hoan Kiem Lake, which is considered an icon of the capital.
