According to South Korean firms during their industrial tourism promotion campaign in Vietnam, this type of tourism is very successful in European countries. The South Korean government also agreed that industrial tourism will be a great help for various companies.
The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism agreed with suggestions about developing industrial tourism via industrial zones and craft villages.
During a conference about the development of hi-tech agricultural tourism products in HCM City on October 5, Phan Yen Ly from Saigontourist said packages that let tourists participate in farming activities such as planting or harvesting had sold well to both domestic and foreign tourists. Despite being an agricultural country, Vietnam hasn't had any comprehensive plan to develop agritourism. Tourists have to call and request the tour.
In order to boost industrial and agritourism, tourism firms need directive and support from state agencies as well as other companies in the fields.
Several firms have started exploring new tourism models. For example, Lam Dong provincial authorities focus on Green Da Lat Tour that bring tourists to greenest sites to participate in the farming. However, they faced some difficulties due to a lack of diverse products, weak infrastructure, weak collaboration with the farmers or lack of knowledge from tour guides.
HCM City authorities recently also made plans for both industrial and agritourism. Suburban districts such as Cu Chi, Thu Duc and Nha Be have advantages to develop agritourism.
Dinh Minh Hiep, head of management board of hi-tech agriculture parks in Cu Chi District, said they had held many activities since 2014 for students before making plans for tourism firms to expand the project in the future.
He went on to say that they still need time to improve the infrastructure and train the employees.
