Among the standout claims: laptops using the new Core Ultra X9 388H chip can deliver up to 27.1 hours of battery life while streaming Netflix in 1080p on Microsoft Edge-tested on a Lenovo IdeaPad reference design.

A major leap in performance and power efficiency

The new Core Ultra Series 3 is designed with one key goal: maximum performance per watt.

Intel says this new generation delivers up to 60% higher multi-core CPU performance, 77% improved gaming efficiency, and unprecedented battery endurance, thanks to architectural improvements and better power management.

Jim Johnson, Intel’s Senior VP and General Manager of the Client Computing Group, emphasized that energy efficiency was a central design focus for the new line-alongside boosts in graphics, AI processing, and software compatibility.

Built-in AI power, next-gen graphics, full x86 support

Intel is positioning Core Ultra Series 3 as its most expansive AI PC platform ever, with over 200 global device models expected to feature the chip.

The Ultra X9 and X7 variants target premium mobile users, packing up to 16 CPU cores, 12 Xe graphics cores, and integrated neural processing units (NPUs) capable of 50 TOPS-ideal for gaming, content creation, and heavy multitasking on the go.

Intel also confirmed that all new chips maintain full compatibility with existing x86 ecosystems, ensuring seamless support for Windows software and legacy applications.

Core Ultra for all tiers-including edge computing

Beyond high-end laptops, Intel also launched mainstream Core versions based on the same architecture, aimed at affordable segments while still improving energy efficiency.

For the first time, Intel simultaneously launched Series 3 chips for both personal computers and edge devices.

These edge-optimized processors are certified for industrial and embedded environments, supporting 24/7 operation and enabling AI workloads in robotics, smart cities, automation, and healthcare.

Intel says the chips significantly enhance AI inferencing at the edge, particularly for large language models (LLMs) and video analytics.

Availability: January rollout for laptops, Q2 for edge systems

Intel confirmed that the first wave of laptops featuring Core Ultra Series 3 chips will be available for pre-order starting January 6, with global retail launches set for January 27.

Edge systems powered by Series 3 chips are expected to debut in Q2 2026.
