Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), will lead a delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) to attend the respect-paying ceremony for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Nguyen Phu Trong.
The announcement was made on July 24 by Hu Zhaoming, spokesperson for the CPC Central Committee's International Liaison Department.
It stated that Huning will serve as the special representative of Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping to lead the CPC delegation to attend the respect-paying ceremony for General Secretary Trong in Hanoi from July 25 to July 26.
On July 23, the Japanese government announced that former Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will attend the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The Japanese government confirmed that Mr. Suga will attend the funeral on Thursday.
Mr. Suga is a key figure in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan and currently serves as an advisor to the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentary Alliance.
In addition, on July 23, New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced that former Deputy Prime Minister Don McKinnon will go to Vietnam this week as New Zealand's special envoy to attend the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
New Zealand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Winston Peters stated: “The government must appropriately acknowledge the significant contributions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to New Zealand-Vietnam relations. For this reason, Don McKinnon will travel to Hanoi this week as the government’s special envoy to attend the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. This action reflects New Zealand's profound respect for the people and government of Vietnam.”
The European Union (EU) delegation in Vietnam also announced that Josep Borrell, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission, will be in Hanoi tomorrow to attend the state funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
