The Vietnam Open 2017 tennis tournament began on October 23 in Ho Chi Minh City.
Ly Hoang Nam (ranked 512nd) is due to face Go Soeda of Japan (ranked 159th) on October 24
The tournament, the Hung Thinh Vietnam Open 2017, features international tennis players ranked up to 99th in the ATP Rankings. Prize money at the
ATP Challenger event amounts to 50,000 USD and the winners in both the doubles and singles categories will get 90 ATP ranking points.
Vietnamese No 1 Ly Hoang Nam and national champion Pham Minh Tuan received a wild card to compete at the event.
General Secretary of the Vietnam Tennis Federation Doan Quoc Cuong said the event is expected to raise Vietnamese tennis to a new level as well as help its players learn from some of the world’s top players.
In a match that took place before the opening ceremony, Pham Minh Tuan of Vietnam was in straight sets by Stephane Robert of France, world No. 230.
On October 24, Ly Hoang Nam (ranked 512nd) is due to face Go Soeda of Japan (ranked 159th).
The final of the men’s singles, doubles and the closing ceremony will be held on October 29.
