Apple is set to unveil the entire iPhone 17 lineup in about a month. While the all-new Air model will undoubtedly attract attention, Apple is also preparing significant changes for the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
Three exclusive features make this flagship difficult to pass up, even for those tempted by the futuristic design of the iPhone 17 Air.
Anti-reflective display
For those who love sunny days and enjoy being outdoors, the rumored addition of a new anti-reflective coating to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max displays will be welcome news.
First leaked in 2024, the coating is said to offer better scratch resistance than the current Ceramic Shield, improving durability over time. Early in 2025, Apple reportedly struggled to scale production due to the complexity of the coating process, prompting fears the feature might be scrapped. Now, with the process improved, the new screen is back on track.
It could be similar to Apple’s “nano-texture” display, but more robust and easier to clean. If it works well, it could become a key selling point - especially when paired with another upgrade: higher brightness.
Largest battery ever in an iPhone
Battery life anxiety may soon be a thing of the past. While the iPhone 16 Pro already improved endurance, the iPhone 17 Pro Max is rumored to take it even further. According to a leak from Instant Digital on Weibo, it could feature a battery around 5,000 mAh - the biggest ever in an iPhone.
By comparison:
iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4,323 mAh
iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4,422 mAh
iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4,676 mAh
If accurate, this would be nearly a 10% increase over the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Even those drawn to the slim iPhone 17 Air may rethink their choice for such extended battery life.
Camera upgrades
Apple’s cameras are already capable of Hollywood-level productions, but upgrades continue. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will likely get a 24MP TrueDepth front camera (up from 12MP) and a 48MP telephoto lens (also up from 12MP).
Other possible enhancements include a second Camera Control button, multi-camera simultaneous video recording, 8x optical zoom, and a pro-grade camera app. While not all are confirmed, they remain credible possibilities.
With these upgrades - plus a new A19 Pro chip, 12GB of RAM, redesigned camera housing, bolder color options, and advanced vapor-chamber cooling - the iPhone 17 Pro Max could be the most professional-grade iPhone yet, truly distinguishing itself from the standard models.
