For years, Android smartphones have routinely appeared in hands-on photos, unboxing videos and even full reviews weeks before their official debut. Apple, by contrast, has long been known for its strict secrecy, with pre-launch leaks typically limited to dummy units or concept renders based on industry rumors.

That pattern may now have changed following a leak reportedly linked to Apple supplier Tata Electronics in India, which appears to reveal the first real-world footage of the iPhone 18 Pro.

Prototype spotted during internal drop testing

According to the leak, well-known technology tipster Evan Blass shared a video showing what is believed to be an iPhone 18 Pro undergoing an internal drop test designed to evaluate the device's durability during development.

The handset shown in the footage is reportedly a gray version whose appearance closely matches earlier rumors. At first glance, many viewers would likely struggle to distinguish it from the iPhone 17 Pro.

The footage suggests Apple may continue relying on its familiar design language rather than introducing a dramatic visual redesign for its next flagship.

Although the overall design appears largely unchanged, reports indicate Apple has made several subtle refinements to the iPhone 18 Pro.

The rear camera module is said to be slightly larger, occupying more space on the camera bump while protruding further from the back of the device. The change could reflect upgraded camera sensors or a redesigned optical system aimed at improving image quality.

In addition, the gap between the rear glass panel and the camera housing appears to have been reduced. The difference, however, is reportedly so minor that it would be difficult to notice without a close inspection.

Another reported improvement involves the device's finish. The color matching between the rear glass and the aluminum frame is said to be more consistent, creating a cleaner and more premium appearance than the previous generation.

These refinements suggest Apple remains focused on polishing small design details rather than making sweeping cosmetic changes.

Beyond the durability test video, additional leaked materials have also surfaced online, including component drawings, processor information, battery details and camera-related documentation.

Even so, timestamps visible on the leaked documents indicate the testing took place in early 2026. That suggests the device shown in the videos is most likely an engineering prototype used for internal development rather than the final commercial version that will reach consumers.

Growing pressure ahead of the iPhone 18 Pro launch

The leak comes as Apple faces mounting pressure surrounding its next-generation iPhone lineup.

Earlier reports suggested the iPhone 18 Pro could see a significant price increase, raising concerns among consumers about the cost of upgrading, particularly after Apple has already increased prices across much of its broader product ecosystem while largely leaving iPhone pricing unchanged.

If the current leaks prove accurate and the iPhone 18 Pro delivers only modest exterior changes, the higher price could encourage some customers to keep using older iPhone models instead of upgrading.

According to current estimates, the iPhone 18 Pro could cost around US$300 more than its predecessor. If that happens, many consumers are likely to question whether improvements in performance, cameras and hardware will be enough to justify the additional expense.

Even so, it is important to note that all of the images and information currently available originate from unofficial sources and have not been confirmed by Apple. The final design, specifications and pricing of the iPhone 18 Pro could still change before the device is officially unveiled, meaning the current reports should be viewed as preliminary rather than definitive.
