Although still about a year away from launch, Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone - the iPhone 20 Pro - is already generating massive excitement across the tech world.
The latest leaks suggest Apple is preparing a major redesign for the iPhone lineup, with the spotlight falling on the iPhone 20 Pro and its nearly flawless front display, free from visible interruptions.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 20 Pro next year to mark two decades since the launch of the first iPhone.
If everything goes according to plan and supply chain partners meet production requirements, Apple’s new CEO John Ternus is expected to introduce the device as a symbolic milestone for the company. Unsurprisingly, Apple’s ambitious vision has already captured global attention.
The “perfect display” Apple has pursued for years
According to industry sources, the iPhone 20 Pro will feature a completely edge-to-edge display, though not in the same way curved-screen smartphones approached the concept in the past.
Instead of dramatically curved edges like many Android phones once adopted, Apple is reportedly sticking with a flat design while reducing bezels to the point of near invisibility.
The most striking detail is the absence of any visual interruption on the display. No notch, no punch-hole camera, no Dynamic Island and no cutout of any kind.
The selfie camera and Face ID sensors are expected to sit entirely beneath the display panel.
If Apple’s broader plans also materialize, the iPhone 20 Pro could even eliminate external speaker grilles and physical buttons altogether.
Such changes would mark a major step toward Apple’s long-standing ambition of turning the iPhone into an ultra-minimalist device where the front surface is nothing but screen.
Users appear intrigued by Apple’s direction
A recent survey on the idea of a fully uninterrupted smartphone display showed that consumers are highly interested in Apple’s rumored direction.
More than 40% of respondents said they would immediately buy such a phone without hesitation.
Meanwhile, roughly 14% said a completely seamless display would strongly influence their next smartphone purchase decision.
The figures suggest there is still strong demand for a truly immersive screen experience.
After years of adapting to notches, punch-hole cameras and Dynamic Island designs, many users still want a display free from distractions.
Of course, not everyone considers the display design a top priority. Nearly 19% of respondents said they felt neutral about the concept, while around 27% said they care more about hardware performance and overall user experience than screen aesthetics.
Still, for Apple, the fact that more than half of surveyed users expressed clear interest is likely an extremely encouraging signal.
Android brands are racing as well
Recent reports suggest several Android smartphone makers are also developing similar display technologies. However, this is not a return to the “waterfall display” trend popular a few years ago, where screens curved aggressively over both sides of the device.
Instead, the new direction focuses on making displays appear as though they are floating above the device body, creating a cleaner and more seamless visual effect while preserving practical usability.
That means if Apple succeeds with the iPhone 20 Pro, the entire smartphone industry could soon enter another major design race.
A similar scenario unfolded when Apple popularized the notch design with the iPhone X, prompting many Android manufacturers to quickly follow suit.
For years, many smartphone users have viewed display cutouts as one of the industry’s most controversial design trends.
From notches to punch-hole cameras, these solutions have often made displays feel visually fragmented.
Apple was once criticized for turning the notch into a global trend, but the company may now become the one that finally helps the industry move beyond it.
For many tech enthusiasts, a fully uninterrupted smartphone display represents the final step toward the ideal smartphone design.
Beyond aesthetics, the experience of watching videos, gaming and reading content would also become far more immersive.
Although the iPhone 20 Pro remains a product of the future, its appeal is already taking shape. And if Apple truly manages to realize this ambition, the iPhone 20 Pro could become one of the company’s most iconic devices since the iPhone X.
