iPhone 8 failed to attract customers

Similar to when the iPhone 7 was first sold in Vietnam last year, few people want to buy the new iPhone even at lower prices.

Minh Tuan, head of Minh Tuan Mobile Store, said when iPhone 7 was sold for VND35m (USD1,500) on the first day, they still have one or two customers.

But at the price of VND22m, no one bought the iPhone 8.

The price dropped by at least VND1.5m but has still failed to attract customers.

Lac Huy from CellphoneS retail store said they already predicted this situation so they had only imported a small number.

"There is not much difference between iPhone 7 and 8 while the iPhone 8 is VND6m (USD264) more expensive.

Meanwhile, the battery of iPhone 7 is not as strong as the Plus model," said Nguyen Dat, head of Di Dong Viet Store.

While the price of iPhone 8 is predicted to continue dropping, the iPhone 8 Plus is seeing a better sales thanks to more reasonable prices even though it is only half as good as the iPhone 7 Plus sale last year.

Buyers are no longer willing to shell out a large sum of money for iPhones like previous years.

An iPhone 8 Plus 64GB is being sold for VND22.5m (USD989) to VND22.9m. Retailers also think that prices for the iPhone 8 Plus could drop.
