Speaking at a press meeting in Hanoi on the morning of April 10, Mohammadi said the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran appreciates Vietnam’s steady stance in the current context.

“The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vietnam would like to express sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Vietnam for adopting a responsible and humanitarian position, stressing the need to avoid war, refrain from the use of force, and promote peaceful solutions based on the Charter of the United Nations,” he said.

According to the Iranian representative, such views not only safeguard the interests of nations but also contribute to strengthening global peace and security.

Vietnam has repeatedly reaffirmed its consistent position of resolving disputes through peaceful means, without the use or threat of force in international relations.

At regular press briefings, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pham Thu Hang has emphasized that Vietnam opposes acts of force against sovereign states, particularly attacks targeting civilian infrastructure that result in casualties. Vietnam has also called on all relevant parties to act responsibly, comply with international law, the UN Charter, and relevant resolutions.

Vietnamese citizens in Iran remain safe

Regarding the situation of Vietnamese citizens in Iran, Mohammadi said the Iranian government is closely coordinating with the Vietnamese Embassy in Tehran to ensure their safety.

According to the latest information, all Vietnamese citizens in Iran are safe. Some have moved to neighboring countries for temporary shelter, while others have returned home. Those remaining in Iran continue to receive support for daily life and study, with students resuming their education online after disruptions.

Developments in the Strait of Hormuz

Addressing the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, Mohammadi noted that the area falls under Iran’s sovereignty and has historically remained open to international maritime traffic.

However, recent security developments, including attacks targeting Iran, have prompted Tehran to consider necessary measures related to activities in the strait.

He added that Iran’s parliament is currently discussing the possibility of imposing fees on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. “Previous reports about Tehran collecting such fees are unfounded. No final decision has been made. If approved, the fees will be based on the cost of ensuring maritime security and safety, as well as environmental protection,” he said.

Iran outlines conditions for talks with the US

Responding to a question about potential negotiations between Iran and the US in Pakistan, Mohammadi said Tehran maintains a consistent stance regarding negotiation terms.

Accordingly, recognition of Iran’s legitimate rights under international law, along with compensation for damages suffered by its people, are considered essential conditions for achieving sustainable peace.

The conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran has now entered its fifth week, causing significant damage and spreading across several Gulf countries. On April 7, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire. The US and Iran have also agreed to hold talks through mediation by Pakistan.
