Israel Book Day, the first of its kind, opened on Hanoi book street on July 16 as part of celebrations for the 25th anniversary of Vietnam-Israel diplomatic ties (July 12).

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Omega Plus Books company Vo Trong Dai said the event is a continuation of activities to foster ties and mutual understanding between the two countries. 

According to him, Vietnamese readers are interested in Israel and Jewish ethnic group so that a number of books featuring different topics from the country’s history and economy to culture and education have been published in recent years. 

On display are more than 100 valuable materials about Israel and Jewish people published in Vietnamese, English and Hebrew languages. 

On the occasion, the book “Con duong thoat han” (Let there be water) was presented to the departments of natural resources and environment and a seminar on Vietnam-Israel cooperation was held. 

The book “Sapiens: a brief history of humankind” by Yuval Noah Harari and “Two halves of friendship” by Susie Morgenstern also made debut.

The event was co-hosted by the Omega Plus Books company, Alpha Books company and the Israeli Embassy in Vietnam.
