According to Danang’s public transportation master planby 2030, the subway (MRT), tram (LRT), and express bus (BRT) will become the city's main transport modes.
Based on this orientation, Japanese experts predict that with the peak hour transport volume touching 6,000 people per hour, the selection of medium-sized LRT aerial transport system and AGT auto transport system will fit Danang city’s development needs.
"With the experience of implementing the AGT system in Japan, JTPA proposes to build an AGT system with a length of 14km, transporting through arterial roads of the city with a total cost of VND23.367 trillion ($1 billion),” Son said.
According to Dang Viet Dung, standing Vice Chairman of the Danang People's Committee, the results of the JTPA research are highly feasible and offers several suggestions for the consultancy team about adjusting and supplementing information on Danang's transport orientation, forecasting the needs of citizens, comparing the ratio of public transportation types, alignment, and assessment of cash flows, besides capital funding and the project’s financial plan.
While the Japanese experts propose two options for air transport and automatic transport, the Korean experts focus on subway and tram transport.
Accordingly, Dang Viet Dung had worked with Seoul Metro Company from South Korea on the results of researching and reviewing the city's public transport planning and had proposed an urban rail network to Danang city.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding between Seoul Metro Company and the Danang Department of Transport signed in January 2018, non-refundable capital support for Danang to develop its urban railway network in accordance with the actual situation, the planning and orientation of the city’s transport network development would be based on the following five documents: research on social and economic planning (adjusted); study of general planning (adjusted); traffic planning study in 2014; development of urban railway network based on analysis results; and the plan on urban railway development.
After over a year of researching population changes and the traffic situation, at the meeting, Seoul Metro Company proposed Danang urban railway network to construct two subway lines (metro) and eight tramway routes covering the central area of the city, connecting the beach, airport, and main roads, meeting the travel demands in both the north-south and the east-west directions.
