The Dance Company Derashinera from Japan will present Vietnamese audiences with Japanese contemporary dance through two performances at the Youth Theatre in Hanoi on January 9 and 10.
The Dance Company Derashinera.
The performances, themed ‘Another Story’, will be directed and choreographed by Onodera Shuji who is the former director of the Company Derashinera.
Formed in 2006, the company has not only performed in Japan but has also given numerous tours around the world. They have just successfully finished performance in New York in November and this is the first time they will perform in Vietnam.
Derashinera’s dance style is based on the techniques of mimes and their performances are shown as theatrical works. The mime’s movements in their dance make the invisible visible, creating their own style to attract a large number of spectators.
Onodera Shuji had directed and choreographed all performances of the company “Water and Oil” before he formed Company Derashinera.
After forming the company as a director, he has continued directing and choreographing not only the performance for his company but also for other theater’s, like SPAC(Shizuoka Performing Arts Center), KAAT(Kanagawa Arts Theater).
He was appointed as a “Japan Cultural Envoy” by the Agency of Cultural Affairs of the government of Japan in 2015.
He will host workshops with the participation of dancers and dance students in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City over a month and a half.
