Shipping giant Hanjin has left up to 4,122 containers at HCM City ports

According to Vinamarine, 50 of these containers still contain cargo, while the remainder are empty.

Hanjin accounts for over 5% of Vietnam’s container shipping industry. The bankruptcy has badly hurt many Vietnamese companies, especially those exporting seafood, garment and textile products, footwear and furniture to China, South Korea and the US.

After the information Hanjin’s bankruptcy in September this year, Vinamarine urged Vietnamese ports, shipping associations and enterprises to co-operate with management agencies to keep a closed watch on Hanjin operations at Vietnamese ports. This was aimed to help Vietnamese importers and exporters to quickly unload their cargoes.

However, to date, up to 4,122 Hanjin containers remain at Vietnamese ports. Hanjin still owes a Vietnamese firm pilot fees of USD118,000.

Meanwhile, taking advantages of Hanjin’s bankruptcy, some foreign companies have increased international shipping by 20-30%.
