Vu Manh Ha, secretary of the district’s Party Committee, said the heavy rainfall had cause economic damages and loss of human lives.

Many houses reportedly collapsed due to the rains, he said.

A section of provincial road No 177, connecting Hoang Su Phi District to Bac Quang District, was blocked by hundreds of cubic metres of land and rocks after torrential rains, he said.

In Xin Man District, another landslide hit a section of provincial road No 178, linking Coc Pai Town to Na Chi Commune, while some bridges were destroyed after the downpours.

Nguyen Duc Vinh, head of the provincial Agriculture and Rural Development Department said the department had mobilised agencies to help local residents.

Vinh also said they were calculating the damages so that they could give financial support to affected people.
