The draft law on Vietnamese coast guard force and the draft revised law on national defence were among issues National Assembly (NA) deputies discussed on May 22, the second day of the ongoing fifth session of the 14th tenure parliament.

In the morning, lawmakers worked in groups to make additional evaluation of the implementation of the socio-economic development and State budget plans for 2017 and the plans in the first months of this year.

They also looked into the outcomes of thrift practice and wastefulness prevention in 2017, along with the final balance of the State budget in 2016.

In the afternoon, the parliament had a plenary discussion under the chair of NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Minister of National Defence Ngo Xuan Lich, on behalf of the Prime Minister, presented the draft law on Vietnamese coast guard force. 

A verification report on this bill was later delivered by Chairman of the NA’s Committee for Defence and Security Affairs Vo Trong Viet.

After that, Vo Trong Viet delivered another report on revisions to the draft revised law on national defence, which later continued to be scrutinised by legislators at the discussion.

Defence Minister Ngo Xuan Lich clarified some issues relating to this draft mentioned by NA deputies.

On May 23, the parliament is scheduled to have another plenary discussion to mull over some debatable contents of the draft law on the special administrative-economic units of Van Don, Bac Van Phong and Phu Quoc. 

A draft law amending some articles of the laws relating to the Law on Planning and a verification report on this draft is set to be submitted to the NA.

Later, lawmakers will work in groups to discuss the draft law amending some articles of the laws relating to the Law on Planning and the draft law on crop production.-VNA
