Speaking at the opening session of the October 23 - November 24 session in Hanoi on October 23, Ngan said the deputies will discuss and make decisions on a range of important contents.

Six draft laws will be considered and approved, while nine other draft laws will be put on table during the sitting.

All these draft laws are important documents which have received attention from voters and the entire society, she said, adding that they will focus on institutionalising regulations of the 2013 Constitution on protecting human rights and citizens’ basic rights and interests, boosting economic development and administrative reform, improving the business environment, ensuring defence security, and preventing corruption.

Lawmakers will scrutinise the Government’s report on the implementation of the socio-economic development plan in 2017 and the socio-economic development plan for 2018; and a report on the implementation of the State budget in 2017 and State budget estimate and allocation for 2018.

They will give opinions on reports on the combat against crimes and law violations, anti-corruption and the settlement of citizens’ complaints and petitions in 2017. They will also use three working days questioning cabinet members, she added.

At the opening ceremony, NA Chairwoman Ngan also expressed sympathy over human and asset losses caused by typhoon Doksuri and the recent devastating flooding and landslides in many central and northern mountainous localities.

She called on voters and Vietnamese people nationwide and abroad to continue helping affected victims in their rebuilding efforts.

Speaking of socio-economic achievements in the first nine months of 2017, the top legislator said that the country is still facing a lot of difficulties and challenges, including high state budget deficit and public debt, below-expectation equitisation of State-owned enterprises, slow investment disbursement and allocation, and bad impacts of climate change.

Therefore, she asked the entire Party and people to stay united and exert more efforts in the remaining months of this year to soundly fulfill 2017’s socio-economic development targets.
