Le Quang Liem, Vietnam’s top chess player, beat Uzbekistan’s Kasimdzhanov Rustam in the fourth match of the ongoing 2019 Spring Chess Classic in Saint Louis, the United States on March 6.
Although Liem (Elo rating 2710) held the black pawn, therefore losing the the advantage of having the first move, he defeated Kasimdzhanov (Elo rating 2661) after 54 moves.
The positive result has helped the Vietnamese grandmaster find himself in first position in the ranking board with 2.5 points after 4 matches.
Liem will next face off against Akobian Varuzhan (Elo rating 2643) of the US.
