Liêm beat Sundararajan Kidambi of India after 39 moves. International Master Nguyễn Anh Khôi tied with Grandmaster Gupta Abhijeet of India.

With five points after seven rounds, Liêm is ranked 12th out of 150 players and young talent Khôi is in 14th position, also with five points.

Inarkiev Ernesto of Russia sits at the top of rankings with six points, followed by Wang Hao of China and Maghsoodloo Parham of Iran with 5.5 points.

In the penultimate round, Liêm will face his compatriot Khôi.

Khôi and Liêm faced off at the HDBank International Chess Tournament 2017, in which Liêm won the title. — VNS
